Personalized Health Plan for the self-management of HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is an infectious disease like no other. It does not suddenly cause severe illness and death like other infectious disease like typhoid fever and Lassa fever, but slowly destroys the health of the patient, over many years, before killing the patient in so many different ways. This means that HIV/AIDS patients are well enough to go about their normal business, which creates for them the problem of stigma and discrimination. HIV/AIDS patients are stigmatized for being infected with the deadly HIV, and discriminated against in work, in play and even in worship, for being able to transmit the virus at every contact. Therefore, HIV/AIDS patients do not just battle with the virus, they also have problem living their life with the disease.
All these problems are taken into considered when a Personalized Health Plan is being formulated for a HIV/AIDS patient. The Personalized Health Plan takes into consideration the patient’s need for cheap and genuine anti-retroviral drugs, the need to adhere to the drug therapy, as well as the legal and social supports to deal with discrimination, and provide psychological support.

Living a long and healthy life with HIV/AIDS
Relevant Information
HIV/AIDS is a deadly disease, but it is a disease in which patients can expect the assistance and protection of the government. HIV/AIDS patients in Nigeria thanks to the Nigerian government and many international organizations have access to free treatment, in many hospitals in Nigeria. They just need to locate the hospitals, register and then receive the free treatment. There are also laws in Nigeria that protects HIV/AIDS patients from discrimination in the workplace and in social life. Patients however need to be aware of these laws, and should know how to use the laws to fight against discrimination.
This training module teaches HIV/AIDS patients how to make their Personalize Health Plan work for them. It teaches them where to assist free treatment in Nigeria, how to derive maximum benefits from the treatment center, and how they can adhere to their treatment, to ensure their health and longevity. The module would also teach the patients the laws in Nigeria that protects them from discrimination, and how to use the laws to fight their case.

It is a one-day programme, delivered by experienced health professionals using such learning methods as didactic lectures, video and practical demonstrations. The training is held in hospitals, hotels, public buildings, and other venues that guarantee anonymity, to ensure that patients feel comfortable to attend.
